2013 Subaru XV CrosstrekSubaru joins the hybrid powertrain this year with its first gas engine and electric motor combo.

The Subaru XV Crosstrek is a midsize crossover which hit dealerships last year as a 2013 model. The Japanese automaker now plans to expand the Crosstrek’s lineup with a hybrid trim. Named the Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid, the ICE/electric-motor powertrain was engineered by Subaru.

Subaru has not yet released spec information on the Crosstrek Hybrid, which will be unveiled at the end of March at the New York Auto show. The original  Crosstrek is powered by a single engine, a 2.0-liter flat-4 mated to either a standard five-speed manual transmission or optional continuously variable transmission. Two trims are available on this crossover: the base Premium and the more luxurious Limited. All Subaru XV Crosstrek crossovers are equipped with all-wheel drive.

Subaru will also reveal an all-new sports car at the show.
